Blame is a story. Healing is a choice. Ouch? What do you think about that quote…After you get past the initial sting? I’ve been thinking about that quote a lot. Especially in the context of how I want to show up to my life. See, I want to show up in delight, wonder, joy, peace, and love, to name a few. Keep reading for some Bible quotes about delight because I think it’s a word we should use more and a life stance we should adopt.
I don’t know about you, but I used to live with a constant hum of resentment just under the surface. Not loud enough to call attention to, but always there. Quietly shaping how I showed up to my life. For so long, I was stuck in my story—blaming the overwhelm, the exhaustion, the never-ending responsibilities, the season of life…even blaming the hard parts of my childhood. But here’s the truth: although what has happened in the past might not have been my responsibility…How I choose to tell the story, how I choose to show up now…that is 1000% my responsibility.
My healing is my responsibility.
For too long, blame was my default:
- Blame for the exhaustion.
- Blame for the emotional chaos.
- Blame for the lack of support, the lack of margin, the lack of joy.
Until one day I realized—blame wasn’t helping me. It was trapping me.
Blame keeps us stuck in the past.
Healing invites us to step into the present.
And here’s the amazing and powerful thing…Healing is something we get to choose!
Not when things are easier.
Not when the kids are older.
Not when the house is clean and your to-do list is done.
Right now. Right where you are.
So, here’s another truth:
Healing doesn’t wait for your circumstances to change.
Healing begins when you choose to show up differently.
I knew what I wanted, but I wasn’t sure how to get there. So, I started by asking myself: How do I want to show up to my life? I didn’t ask: “What do I need to fix?” or, “What do I need to accomplish?”
I asked, “Who do I want to be in this moment?” I was sick and tired of being sick and tired!
- I was tired of dragging myself through the day.
- Tired of feeling numb and resentful.
- Tired of waiting for someone or something out there to rescue me.
I knew I needed a change. I did not want to spend the rest of my life living like that! So what was the opposite of dragging myself through the day? What was the opposite of feeling numb and resentful? That’s what I wanted!!! I decided:
- I want to show up with energy and joy.
- I want to live with purpose and love.
- I want to see my life through the lens of wonder and possibility.
- I want to delight in my life again.
I want to show up with energy, even when I feel tired.
I want to show up with purpose, even when my path feels foggy.
I want to show up with love, even when I feel hurt.
I want to show up with wonder, even in the ordinary.
I Want to Be Delighted by My Life!
Bible Quotes: Delight in the Bible
Delight is not something we talk about enough as grown women with 47 responsibilities and a grocery list that never ends. But God talks about it. A lot. Here are a few Bible quotes that anchor me when I’m choosing to see my life through the lens of joy and beauty:
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.”
+Psalm 37:4 (NLT)
“Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight.”
+Psalm 119:111 (NLT)
“Let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy.”
+Psalm 68:3 (NLT)
“The Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will take delight in you with gladness.”
+Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)
When I read those verses, I’m reminded that delight is not a luxury. It’s a lens. We get to look at our life and choose how we’ll interpret it. Not through the lens of lack. Not through the lens of shame or fear. But through the lens of truth, beauty, and goodness.
