If you spend any amount of time here at The Littlest Way, you’ll see I am a firm believer that what we say or think about ourselves, affects who we are for the positive–helping us to lead a joy-filled life, or for the negative–causing us to lead discouraged, joyless lives. These thoughts and words we say or think daily about ourselves, they are our personal daily affirmations.
Did you even realize you have daily affirmations? That’s common with them; we have them and don’t even realize what they are. So we just keep going through life, allowing whatever we think or say to become a part of us. Pretty soon, they are old habits, deeply ingrained–literally ingrained into our brains. It’s time to start thinking about we think about!
Daily Affirmations
An affirmation is defined as the truth of something, so our daily affirmations are the daily defined truths about ourselves. What is the truth you believe about yourself? What do you tell yourself, about yourself, daily? And where do we get these ideas–these affirmations–about ourselves? Who or what do we let define us?
When and why do we start thinking and believing we are fat, ugly, stupid, weak, dumb, scared, poor…When do we start believing and speaking lies about ourselves? Does it happen when we think we need to make ourselves look bad so others can look good? And does that even make any sense? Does it happen when someone who does not like themselves, mean girls, tell us these lies so we will hurt as badly as they do?
I spent too many years listening to, thinking and believing lies about myself. I let others, the world, and my faulty self-perception tell me who or what I was. I believed I was scared, a worrier, depressed, selfish, chubby, lucky…Oh did “luck” throw you for a loop there? Lucky doesn’t sound so bad, does it? It was.
I was told I was lucky, that things came too easy for me. Those words and ideas totally negated any hard work or effort I put into my life. They also made me feel unworthy of my supposed “luck.” Others, who had it worse or worked harder, were more deserving than “lucky” me. So luck was expected, success denied and failure put me in my place. What a lose–lose situation.
I lived a joyless life. I had no passion or hope for the future. I just trudged through the day. I do not want that for you. I want you to live a life filled with the truth of who you are …and the truth of who you are comes from who you are in Christ. I know you will enjoy this ever-growing collection of posts here at The Littlest Way linked on this Daily Affirmations page.
In order to combat all the years I spoke lies about and into myself and allowed others to do the same, I needed to start speaking the truth into and about myself. This truth began with a daily list of scriptural affirmations. I began telling myself who I was and what I was capable of through Christ…“I am more than a conqueror…I am the head and not the tail…I have the mind of Christ…I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me…”
