Daily Affirmations for Christian Moms: How I Learned to Take Back My Thoughts and My Peace
As a Christian Life Coach for women, I meet many overwhelmed moms who, like me, feel burdened by worry and fear—especially when life is supposed to be peaceful. Years ago, while experiencing crushing anxiety and fears, I learned about daily affirmations for Christian women. This knowledge and understanding was life-changing! I have a fire in my belly to teach women struggling, there is hope!
What’s the saying? “When you know better, you do better.” As I learned about thought awareness and brain neuroplasticity—I know! Thank you, local library! The more I learned about how my thoughts worked, the more I realized that I had the power to change them. See, a lot of my anxiety and fear started with fears I didn’t even know were shaping my life.
There was a time in my life when I allowed anything and everything to enter my mind:
Horror movies, yes.
20/20 and Dateline murder mysteries, you bet!
The latest fear-mongering, ok.
Fear, for me, wasn’t just an idea. It felt real—heavy, present, and powerful. And maybe you can relate. Have you ever watched a show or read an article that made your heart race with the “what ifs”? I remember watching Oprah one day as she shared a story of young women who’d had heart attacks. And as I listened, my heart started pounding, my chest tightened, and it wasn’t long before I was convinced: What if that’s me?
Suddenly I was consumed with the very real feeling, “I think I have a heart problem!” And these sudden, crushing, painful fears were stealing not only my peace but my joy and my ability to focus on what mattered. I became consumed with every twinge or pain, convinced it was related to my heart.
Truth was, there wasn’t a single thing wrong with my heart. But my thoughts had me locked in a cycle of fear! When we give our attention to fear, anxiety, and dread, those thoughts become the chains that keep us bound. Before I knew it, I was spending my energy on fears that would never come to pass and money on doctor’s appointments that found nothing wrong.
I was so busy in living in fear and dread that I wasn’t living the life right in front of me.
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world…” (+Ephesians 6:12) was a verse I knew well. But that verse didn’t fully make sense until I started learning about thought awareness. And from thought awareness, daily affirmations for Christian women. I realized my battle had always been entirely in my mind.
My enemy wasn’t a physical disease (like Ebola), or a looming disaster; it was my thoughts. I didn’t need protection from the outside; I needed protection from the mental storms inside.
Taking Back Control with Faith and Thought Awareness
That cycle of fear continued until one day, I had a breakthrough. After two years of torment, I finally stopped myself and thought, Wait a minute. If those women survived their heart attacks, then I don’t have to fear this anymore.
It was as if a weight lifted off me. That single thought, they survived, became the crack in my prison walls; the voice of reason. But even then, the fears were lurking, waiting for any open door. I had to immediately go on the offensive using daily affirmations, staying the Word of God as a guard and guide.
See, when we let fear take up space, it weakens us. Instead of leaning into God’s promises and love, I had unknowingly leaned into fear and worst-case scenarios…and pretty soon this became a solid habit. If something could go wrong, my thoughts were primed to believe it would.
Yet God was showing me that my mind didn’t have to be an open door for every troubling thought that passed by. I had a choice—I could focus on truth, not fear. I could think about only the things that I wanted to think about.
The Power of Renewing the Mind
I’ve learned through years of practice, research and study, and Life Coach Certification that Scripture and science agree with this incredible truth: our minds can be renewed. Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself, is exactly what Romans 12:2 describes when it calls us to “let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think”.
Every fearful thought doesn’t have to stay. When a thought comes into our minds, we get to decide if we want to think about it! Such a simple truth, but not always easy to practice.
I decided to start trying to replace anxious thoughts with daily affirmations for Christian women (nothing woo-woo) and Scripture affirmations grounded in God’s promises. And now I share these affirmations with other Christian moms, teaching them to choose thoughts of life, peace, and joy every day. I know what it feels like to be a victim of your thoughts and feelings; I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
I want everyone to learn that when we take our thoughts captive, we start breaking free from the strongholds of fear and anxiety. We don’t have to live at the mercy of every worry that comes to mind. God invites us to a life of peace, even in our minds, and that’s a freedom I’m passionate about helping other women find.
Ready for a New Mindset?
So here’s my invitation: Don’t go into this busy, end-of-the-year, holiday season burdened by overwhelming thoughts and fears. Don’t end this year the way you may have started, feeling like your life is happening to you and not for you.
It’s time to go to school, so to speak, and learn about the peace and joy that God promises. I’ve walked this road, and as a Certified Christian Life Coach for women, I cannot wait to walk alongside you too. If I can break free from those oppressive thoughts, so can you!
Sign up for one-on-one coaching with me today. You are worth the investment. I firmly believe that when mommas get healthier and stronger, entire families get healthier and stronger. That’s why the enemy targets us–he doesn’t want us healthy for ourselves or our family.
