I read a quote the other day that stopped me in my tracks: “If someone followed you around for a week, would they believe you’re serious about your goals?” Oof. Convicting, right? But then I thought, what if we replaced “goals” with “prayers”?
That hit different. If someone knew your deepest, most heartfelt prayers, would they believe you’re serious about them? Would someone watching your week—your patterns, your pace, your words, your choices—walk away thinking, “Wow, she really believes God is going to answer her prayers for healing, transformation, renewal”?
I’m not shaming you at all!. I’m not here to make you feel bad. I’m asking because I’ve been there. I’ve lived that disconnect—praying one thing, but living something else. I even have a post around here somewhere where I tell the story about my husband telling me bluntly that I didn’t have any faith or trust in God. We were standing in our driveway, and I had just poured out my fears yet again. His comment stung, and I bowed up all offended…because he was 1000% right.
The Disconnect Between Prayer and Practice
Maybe you’re praying for freedom…Peace…Joy…Forgiveness…Rest…Renewal…
But when you look at your life, your actions, and your daily rhythm… do they reflect those prayers? Maybe, late at night when the house is finally quiet, you’re begging God for peace…but you won’t let go of control. Maybe you’re asking Him to completely transform your mind…while still rehearsing the same old thoughts, the same worn-out stories that keep you stuck. Maybe you’re asking for rest and restoration…but you won’t put down your phone…or the grudge you’re carrying around everywhere you go.
I’ve done it too!! I’ve prayed bold, desperate prayers… and then lived like they were optional, or wishes on a dandelion puff. It’s painful to admit, but it’s true.
Here’s what I believe: too often, we want change, but we don’t actually want to change. We want the miracle. We want God to snap His fingers and rearrange our lives while we keep everything exactly the same. We’re afraid of what will be required of us to actually make the changes. What if it’s uncomfortable? Guess what? You’re already uncomfortable! What if it’s hard? Guess what, you’re the one always saying, “Well, it’s just so hard right now.”
Change Is Uncomfortable… But So Is Staying the Same
Yes, change is uncomfortable. But friend, you’re already uncomfortable.
- You’re already tired.
- Already frustrated.
- Already stuck in a cycle you don’t want to be in anymore.
So what if, instead of staying uncomfortable in the wrong direction, you got uncomfortable for the right reasons? What if you partnered with the transformation you’re praying for? Here’s the truth, when we choose our hard and embrace it, everything starts to become easier! We realize we are more capable and better equipped than we think!
What Would It Look Like to Align with Your Prayers?
Here’s what I mean:
What if you prayed for peace—and then pursued it?
“Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”
—Psalm 34:14 NLTWhat if you asked God for rest, then went to bed early instead of numbing out with your phone?
What if you longed for beauty and joy, then stopped scrolling through chaos and comparison?
What if you cried out for contentment, then stopped complaining and started giving thanks?
(Oof, that one steps on some toes—including mine.)
God isn’t holding out on you. He’s not playing games. He’s working for you, not against you.
But we’ve got to ask: Are we working with Him—or against ourselves?
This Is Your Invitation
This could be your moment.
Not the kind of moment where everything changes overnight—but the moment where you decide to stop waiting for everything else to shift and instead take the first faithful step.
Because He is already moving.
He’s already answering.
He’s already doing His part.
Now it’s your turn.
Maybe that means turning off the noise.
Saying no to one thing so you can say yes to peace.
Replacing just one old thought with one life-giving truth from God’s Word.
It doesn’t have to be dramatic. It just has to be real.
You’re Not Alone
Romans 12:2 (NLT) says:
“Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
That’s not just poetic—it’s practical. That’s the path forward.
Renewing your mind isn’t a one-time fix. It’s a daily invitation. And I want you to know, you don’t have to walk this alone.
I’ve done this work.
I’m still doing this work.
And I promise—it’s possible.
Freedom is possible.
Peace is possible.
Joy is possible.
But we have to live like our prayers matter—because they do.
So Let Me Ask Again…
If someone followed you for a week, would they believe you’re serious about your prayers?
I believe you are.
And I believe you’re ready.
Not to strive more.
Not to try harder.
But to decide to believe who God says He is, and that He will do what He says He will do.
Let’s live like our prayers matter.
Because they absolutely do.
With you on this journey,
Jenny
