One of the most searched-for questions I see among Christian women is this: What does the Bible say about our thoughts? And no wonder — it feels like the biggest battle we fight isn’t on the outside, but on the inside. It’s the constant swirl of thoughts, fears, questions, and to-do lists. It’s waking up already anxious. It’s trying to read your Bible while also planning dinner and worrying about everything for everybody!
Our Thoughts Determine Our Lives
There’s a verse I recently read in a different translation that I just love! Psalm 94:19 says:
“When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” (NASB)
Not only does the Lord care about your thoughts, but Scripture tells us He meets us right in the middle of them. And not with shame, not with a slap on the wrist, but with comfort so deep it can lead to delight. Let that sink in.
So just in case no one’s said it to you lately — or maybe ever — let me be the one:
You can love Jesus with your whole heart… and still feel anxious, overwhelmed, and exhausted.
That doesn’t make you broken. That makes you fully human…and that’s the goal!!
Our Thoughts Determine Our Lives (More Than We Realize)
For a long time, I didn’t know this. I didn’t understand that my thoughts were shaping my reality. I’d walk around feeling suffocated by anxiety, wondering what was wrong with me. I had every reason to be grateful: a good marriage, healthy children, a home, food on the table, etc. So why did I feel like I couldn’t breathe?
I had no idea at the time that my thoughts were creating the life I was living.
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”
+Proverbs 23:7
This isn’t just poetic language. It’s neuroscience.
Let’s talk about what science now confirms: your brain listens to your thoughts. Every time you think a thought — especially a repeated one — it builds a neural pathway, almost like a mental rut in a dirt road. The more you think it, the deeper the groove gets, and the easier it is for your brain to go there again…like the fast lane on the highway.
I didn’t know that every time I said, “I’m so tired” or “I’m never going to catch up,” my brain went to work gathering evidence to prove I was right!
And if I grumbled (or murmured like the Israelites, yikes!) — even silently — about how much my husband wasn’t doing or how loud and rowdy my kids were, my brain served up a nice little buffet of confirmation to back it all up.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Every word we speak, even to ourselves, is a seed. And seeds grow.
Why You Feel Stuck (and Why It’s Not Your Fault)
Listen, if you’re feeling stuck, like the life you’re living doesn’t match the life you believe in — it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means no one ever showed you how to renew your mind.
Romans 12:2 tells us:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (NLT)
That word “transformed” in the Greek is metamorphoo—the same word used to describe Jesus’ transfiguration. This isn’t a small shift. It’s a total inner transformation.
But how do we actually do that? Not just memorize the verse, but live it?
That’s the question I was desperate to answer.
From Overthinking to Peace: The Thought Renewal Blueprint
After years of battling the same thought loops—I’m not enough, I’m messing this up, I’ll never change—I knew I needed a new approach. I didn’t just want a quiet time checklist. I needed tools to rewire my mind…the “quick fix” band-aid was not working!
I’ve spent this past year developing something I wish I’d had years ago: a simple, four-step framework based on Scripture, thought work, and neuroscience called The Thought Renewal Blueprint.
It’s already helping women move from anxious overthinking to peace, stability, and clarity — some for the first time in years!!
It walks you through four powerful steps:
Recognize the thoughts keeping you stuck
Reveal the emotions and beliefs underneath them
Replace them with what’s true and life-giving
Repeat it daily until it becomes your new normal
This isn’t fluff or toxic positivity. This is brain renewal meets biblical truth.
Why It Works (Hint: Your Brain Is Wired for Renewal)
Here’s where the science meets Scripture: Your brain is neuroplastic, meaning it can change and grow no matter how old you are. You’re not stuck with the thoughts you’ve always had. Your mind is designed by God to be renewed. Remember, repeated thoughts form neural pathways, but you can prune those and grow new ones. Dr. Caroline Leaf, a Christian neuroscientist, puts it this way:
“As you think, you change the structure of your brain.”
That’s why the Apostle Paul didn’t just say, “Renew your life and your thoughts will follow.” He said, Renew your mind, and your life will be transformed.
You’re Not Broken—You Just Need Tools
If no one ever taught you this, you’re not alone. I had no idea my thoughts mattered…and especially to God until I sat down with a green highlighter and my Bible. I read the books of Psalms and Proverbs, and every time I came across a verse about my mind, I highlighted it in green. (Green symbolized new life to me, and I knew I needed new life in my thoughts. I kept reading past those two books. And then…in the New Testament, I came across it; I could take my thoughts captive!
I didn’t know I could choose new thoughts. I just thought (haha!) everyone walked around thinking whatever it happened to pop into their head.
Listen, you’re allowed to pause and ask yourself:
Is this thought serving me? Is this the thought I want to think?
You’re allowed to process emotions instead of stuffing them down.
You’re allowed to shift your focus from fear to faith.
You’re allowed to say, “God, I’m overwhelmed…but I trust You to walk me through this.”
Ready to Renew Your Mind?
If this is hitting home—if you’re nodding and thinking, this is what I’ve needed—I want you to know the Thought Renewal Blueprint is available now. It launched June 1, and through the end of the month, it comes with a bonus one-on-one coaching call to go deeper.
You don’t have to keep living in that cycle of anxiety, guilt, and overwhelm. You can learn to think differently — and when you do? You’ll live differently. Because our thoughts determine our lives.
You’re not broken. You’re being invited into a new way of living — one rooted in truth, clarity, and the mind of Christ.
