Hello, friends! For as many years as I’ve been blogging, writing, leading an Online Bible Study Community, and now as a Certified Christian Life Coach, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with many of you through emails and messages. Through the years, and especially recently, I’ve noticed some common “questions, concerns, and cries of complaint”—as an old teacher of mine used to say. These all share a common theme, the power of a Christian community…or lack of community.
One of the biggest concerns or complaints centers around daily Scripture reading. Many of us struggle with the internal and external challenges of sitting down and reading our Bibles. I believe creating a community of like-minded women can be an essential tool to help all of us.
We all know that community plays a vital role in our spiritual growth, and scientific research backs that up. A study published in The American Journal of Community Psychology emphasizes that having supportive relationships can reduce stress and promote a sense of belonging; social support can strengthen our overall sense of well-being. This improvement can lead to better mental health, increased happiness, and greater resilience during challenging times.
And this is why we need the power of a Christian community. A bible-reading community, meant to encourage, grow, and support the faith journey of other women—especially in a world that often sends conflicting messages, might just be the manna we need right now.
Since I launched our Online Bible Study Community years ago, even when it’s limped along through tragedy and trials, I’ve found that it has kept me more consistent in my Bible reading (not perfect, but definitely more consistent!). The power of gathering together in faith is undeniable.
What Does the Bible Say About Community?:
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
— Hebrews 10:24-25
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!”
— Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
— Matthew 18:20
I think so many of our struggles can be traced to a feeling of isolation. You might say, “I’m not alone; I’m part of a large church group!” But let’s be honest—for many of us, when the actual day and time comes to dress up and leave the house…well, we’d honestly rather just stay home; just because we belong to a group doesn’t mean we always show up to the group.
