You may have landed here because you typed something like “What does the Bible say about our thoughts?” or “Who said our thoughts determine our lives?” Friend, I’m so glad you did. Because if you’ve ever lain awake at night, mind racing, heart heavy, wondering, “Why can’t I shut my thoughts off?” you’re not alone!
The Power of Our Thoughts
There was a time when my thoughts felt out of control. I was doing all the “right” things — reading my Bible, taking care of my family, writing in my gratitude journal — like we’re supposed to — and yet I still struggled with anxious thoughts, obsessive spirals, and a constant sense of overwhelm…all while still making dinner and folding laundry #momlife
And that’s when the Lord began teaching me something powerful: Our thoughts determine our lives.
“Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.”
— Proverbs 4:23, GNT
When I came across that verse about what the Bible says about your thoughts, it stopped me in my tracks! My thought life wasn’t just a minor annoyance — it was shaping my entire experience of motherhood, marriage, and everyday life.
It All Started with Bible Journaling…
Years ago, you may have downloaded some of my Bible journaling printables—maybe you used them right away, or maybe they’re still sitting in your downloads folder (no shame, friend).
For me, Bible journaling opened a door to something much deeper.
As I colored, sketched, and scribbled out prayers in the margins of Scripture, I created an environment to slow down. And as I slowed down, I got quiet. And in the quiet, I began to listen to my thoughts. I started to notice the inner dialogue I had never questioned before!!
And the Holy Spirit met me right there in the quiet.
Thought Renewal is the Starting Place
This wasn’t just a new quiet time routine — it became the beginning of a mind renewal journey that changed everything; a total transformation of my life…and it all began in my thoughts.
And here’s what I learned:
You don’t have to believe every thought that pops into your mind.
Your thoughts are not your identity.
God allows you to co-labor with Him in the renewing of your mind. *This is FABULOUS news because He doesn’t do it for us! He teaches us the tools to do it for ourselves.
“Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
— Romans 12:2, NLT
Your Thoughts Determine Your Life
When your thoughts are saturated in fear, shame, comparison, or anxiety, it impacts your:
Emotional stability
Spiritual growth
Parenting
Marriage
Energy
Focus
Peace
But when your thoughts are aligned with God’s truth? You begin to live with peace, purpose, and courage — even in the middle of the chaos. Your circumstances don’t need to change because you’ve changed!
And no, this didn’t happen overnight. It happened with intentional, faithful, day-by-day thought renewal.
