Can you believe we are in the last days of the year? \u00a0I remember all the hub-bub when the calendar was getting ready to roll over to the year 2000 (said in an old granny voice) and here we are getting ready to welcome another year. \u00a0Speaking of welcoming the New Year, I created a Free New Year’s Eve Printable–What a Year!<\/strong>\u00a0 This is a fun way to look back over the past year and consider the new one. \u00a0It also has a place at the bottom for your Word of the Year<\/strong>. \u00a0If you don’t know what a Word of the Year<\/strong> is or haven’t ever chosen one, I’ll be posting about mine for this year soon. \u00a0Enjoy the Free New Year’s Printable and Black Eye Pea Recipes\u00a0<\/strong>for your New Year’s Day celebration.<\/p>\n

Free New Year’s Eve Printable<\/h2>\n

This “What a Year” printable<\/a> is so much fun to fill out! I’m going to hole punch ours this year and put them in a binder so we can easily look back over them year after year. Right now they’re just laying somewhere in a basket in my closet. I added a new catagory this year, “Biggest Surprise.” This will be a fun one to think of. <\/p>\n

And speaking of the New Year what are some of your must-haves for New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day? Southerner’s must-have Black Eye Peas for New Years. It’s supposed to be “Good Luck” or some silly thing like that. \u00a0First, I don’t believe in luck and second, I think Black Eye Peas, on their own or cooked with ham, taste like dirt–don’t hate. But we eat them anyway because it’s what we do according to Chris. \u00a0I have found a couple of really yummy ways to make them.<\/p>\n

Black Eye Pea Dip<\/strong><\/h2>\n

14oz can of Black Eye Peas
\n1\/4 of an onion–chopped fine
\n1\/4 cup of sour cream
\n1 jalapeno pepper–chopped fine
\n1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
\n3 Tablespoons salsa
\nHot sauce to taste
\nSalt and Pepper to taste<\/p>\n

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0
\nDrain and partially mash the Black Eye Peas. Add all the other ingredients and mix well. Spread the mixture into a baking dish and bake for 20-30 minutes until hot and bubbly. Serve with tortilla chips, pita chips or crackers.<\/p>\n

Black Eye Pea Salsa<\/h2>\n

1 can Black Eye Peas–drained and rinsed
\n3 stalks of celery–finely chopped
\n3 green onions–sliced thin
\n1 red bell pepper–chopped fine
\n1 cucumber–peeled, seeded and chopped fine
\n1 jalapeno pepper–seeded and chopped fine
\n1 cup cilantro–chopped fine<\/p>\n

Dressing<\/strong>
\n1\/2 cup of olive oil
\n1\/3 cup of vinegar
\n2-3 Tablespoons sugar
\n1 teaspoon celery seed
\n1\/2 teaspoon dry mustard
\n1\/2 teaspoon salt
\npepper to taste<\/p>\n

Mix dressing ingredients together and set aside. Mix the Black Eye Peas with all the vegetables in a large bowl. Pour the dressing over and mix well. Refrigerate. Serve with tortilla chips or pita chips.<\/p>\n
