Today as we start digging into our 31 days of Bible Quotes, let’s start with, “Why do Bible quotes matter? Who are we to God? And why does His Word matter in my life?” Those are all good questions and if we’re not really sure of who we are in God and who He is to us, then our Bible reading, our time spent in His Word is not going to make much difference in our lives.

First, who are we to God and in God? Well I’m glad you asked! I have a really pretty printable of Bible quotes for you explaining it. (CLICK HERE for your free printable, My Heavenly Father) I have one of these printables hanging in my bathroom; I also have a copy taped to the mirror in the bathroom my children and guests use.

Ever wondered how God feels about you? Well, He guards you as the apple of His eye, He takes pleasure in you, He loves you and sings over you. God walks with you, covers you with His favor, blesses you, and will never abandon you. He created you in His image, provides for you, loves you forever and holds your right hand. God chose you, loves you, knows your ways, has you engraved on the palms of His hands, carries you, and accepts you.

This post may contain affiliate links to products I love and recommend.

So now that we know we are important to God let’s talk a little bit about why spend time in His Word. Quoting from one of my favorite books, Called to Life by Jacques Philippe, he says, “When read in faith, it makes God Himself present in our lives and communicates Him to our hearts. If we allow the words of Scripture to fill our thoughts and enter our hearts, God becomes present. For God dwells in His Word.”

Click To Tweet

Another quote from Called to Life, “Not a day should pass for us without spending at least a few minutes reading Scripture.” A few minutes? We can totally do that right? And here’s another good reason why according to Jacques Philippe, “It may seem pointless at times, but if we persevere with simplicity and prayer, Scripture will enter deeply into our memories, without even being aware. And when we need it, in a difficult moment, a verse will rise to consciousness. And it will be exactly the word that brings hope and peace.”

I mentioned in a post on Bible journaling, one time my seven year son reciting Psalm 23 to daddy was the perfect word for my husband at that time. He was struggling with his job and likened it to walking through the shadow of death. Without even being aware, as the author states, it was the Word that brought my husband hope and peace. Of course we could have encouraged him on our own, but to hear from his little boy that God was walking with him was powerful!

Bible quotes matter because God is the Word of life. All the assurance and encouragement in the world cannot compare to the life giving quality of God’s Word.

“Scripture has a remarkable power to speak profoundly and personally to us, to respond to the exact here and now need for light, encouragement, and even conversion lodged deep in our hearts. Those moments when a Scripture verse, until then not especially meaningful, suddenly blazes out with a message that corresponds to our present situation testify to the faithfulness and tenderness of the Lord.”

Bible Quotes Resources

My large print Bible Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: New Testament The Catholic Bible Concordance for the Revised Standard Version Bible Quotes: How Does God Feel About Me?
