Welcome to the Daybook. A weekly post here at The Littlest Way where I gather all the ordinary things that happen or are happening in my day to day. Things like what I’m reading or listening to, eating, cleaning, and learning. These are the small moments that make up my blessed daily life and I want to remember them. My prompts may change depending on season and circumstance.

*August 17, 2016 Update: I’ve written a book, Bible Journaling Tips, Inspiration and Permission, to encourage and inspire you in your Bible journaling!

Thanking God for…

::Chris being able to stop by home to watch the eclipse

::
Aimee Kollmansberger–her posts speak to the season I’m in right now

::our neighbor letting us swim whenever we want

::hay bales all around us

::finding cows in our backyard (they pushed through the fence)

::Chris and the boys herding them on the 4-wheeler

Praying…

As a family, we are praying a 54-day Rosary novena right now. I’m constantly praying for my husband and children–this world is tough. I’m praying for you all–again, tough world. I’m also praying for direction and discipline for some specific goals.

Pondering…

I’m pondering Aimee’s latest post about teenagers, especially this, “I am super awesome at over-reacting. I startle easily and have a highly sensitive nervous system. Stressful situations hit my nerves quickly, and I can have strong physiological and emotional reactions almost immediately. I am learning how to better accomodate my sensory issues, but growth + learning + healing takes time! All of this to say, a middle-age mom with PMS/perimenopausal issues living with budding teenagers with hormonal issues can be a recipe for ALL THE FEELS.”

Listening to…

I’m trying to remember to listen to the Cicadas everyday. I felt a little shift in the air a week ago, of course it’s back to hot and humid right now, but there was something…I know the sounds of the Cicadas will be over sooner rather than later. The other night on a news story about the eclipse, they mentioned it won’t follow this same path for another 38 years–Chris and I will be in our 80’s by then. In that one moment, I was hyper-aware of time…of my time on earth. So, I listen close for the Cicadas before they’re gone for the summer of 2017.

Reading…

The One Year Bible – Catholic: NLT

My sister thanked me the other day for the recommendation of this Bible. She said for the first time, she’s reading and understanding the Bible. The reading is manageable and the translation flows easily. I wouldn’t recommend this Bible for serious study or theological discourses, but for everyday reading, just to get the Word in, I definitely recommend this Bible.

Anchor: God’s Promises of Hope to Parents

Chris and I started reading this book together the other night. It is really good and very timely.

Bible Journaling…

I’m putting together some
Bible journaling posts. Friends ask me the what and where and examples, so I will start rounding some of them up to show y’all.

Around the House…

Have you seen this video on making your bed? It is so very, absolutely good. I made my kids watch it. I watched it more than once. By the way, I shared this on my Facebook page earlier in the week. If you’re not following me over on Facebook, click the link here.

Speaking of Cicadas and shared videos on Facebook, have you seen this one about the songs of crickets? Oh my word!

In the Kitchen…

(This post is late.) Tonight I made
Cilantro Lime Chicken Thighs in my Instant Pot. It was good, I’m just not a huge dark meat fan. But Chris LOVED it. Last night we had Sloppy Joes and Tater Tots and Sunday night…we had ice cream sundaes for no other reason than it was hot and no one felt like cooking and every once in a while, I like to throw a great BIG YES into the parenting mix. It is so contrary to my usual parenting my kids are always stunned.

Self Care

I am just not feeling my best lately. I’m so inconsistent with my walking and stretching. Why? Well, I’m sure if I don’t know, you don’t. I haven’t really figured out a good time to walk and stretch. I need a few minutes to wake up so first thing in the morning doesn’t work. I have a house full of kids–who I homeschool and we have family time in the morning, so once they’re awake doesn’t work. Then our day starts moving along and pretty soon it’s lunch and then dinner and then soccer and then family prayer and then bed for everyone else while the girls and I stay up and watch Downton Abbey. Maybe before bed?

The Littlest Way

If you have not checked out my Catholic T-Shirts sold through Amazon, click here–
Catholic Church Lady Shop. Like and Follow so you’ll know when I add new shirts. Today I added, “Sassy Like St. Teresa of Avila” and “Restless Like St. Augustine.” I honestly love these shirts and am working on buying one of each. So far I have, “Incense Me” (Get it? Catholics use incense), “The Littlest Way” and “Bead Rattler.”

Our Domestic Church…

The Feast of St. Loius IX is this Friday. It is said his mother told him, “Never forget that sin is the only great evil in the world. No mother could love her son more than I love you. But I would rather see you lying dead at my feet than know that you had offended God by one mortal sin.” What a great day for confession, yes. During a crusade in 1248 he was captured, it is said he sang the Divine Office daily, maybe pray one of the offices that day, Vespers is a common one to start. I found a new to me
Catholic App review site, I’m sure they have an app for that.

Saving Money…

You know what I’m going to say right?
Ibotta. Last week, I just went shopping, came home and scrolled through the app. I found 3 rebates, had the app take a picture of the code at the bottom of my Walmart receipt and made $2.75 I know, doesn’t seem like much, but if you figure I made over $100 last year doing the same thing…it adds up. I saw where Money Saving Mom makes THOUSANDS because she uses the app and her friends use the app. If you want to sign up to use the free app, as soon as you verify your first rebate, you earn $10.

Captured…

This morning in my Bible reading, the Old Testament reading was a list of names from the Book of Nehemiah. I know right. I hate it when my reading is just a list of names. I want some encouragement and inspiration, not a list of names I can't even pronounce. But this morning, I had this sense that this list was encouragement. There are some things I'm trying not worry about right now and trying not to worry is making me feel agitated, grumpy and unsettled. This long list spoke to me about my God Who has a plan. A God who knew/knows His children by name, even if they're difficult to pronounce. God has an order and no amount of worry or trying not worry will derail His order. And finally, details matter, I matter, you matter. He knows our name and place and circumstance, where we came from and where we're headed. #goodmorning #itsagreatday #joyfilledlife #nowisnow #nowisgood #butfirstGod #catholicmom #catholic #biblestudy #godsword #wellwateredwoman #inpursuitofgod #Godfirst #Godisgood #bible #thewordofGod #encouragement #light #womanoftheword #lampandlight #wordofGod #scripture
