A couple of years ago my sister and I each decorated a canvas to hang in our homes. Mine started out being a “Family Rules” canvas. After I was finished and hung it on our wall, a visiting priest commented on how it read more like a nightly “Family Examen” rather than a “Family Rules” board. This board has now become our nightly examen with children as we go through it, word by word or phrase by phrase.
We’ve used it “officially” as a nightly examen after family prayer but lost the habit somewhere along the way. I regret that and have vowed to pick it back up. Not only pick it back up but tie it to the Word of God…win-win.
Quickly before we get into the specifics of the examen, let’s answer why an examen? We are all fallen, sinful beings who make mistakes, commit sin, and sometimes fall into habitual sin. The good news is, we have an awesome God who never runs out of mercy and forgiveness!! When we make an examination of conscience, we learn to know ourselves better–our weaknesses, our bad habits, our faults, and our sins. We also learn to know God better when we seek his strength to overcome our own selves. When we seek His will, His grace, mercy, and forgiveness.

This is great.
I too, have seven kids. You don’t have this examen ready to go as a printable, do you? I love the idea of the project, but realistically I would love to print and hand this ASAP, and that project may never get done!
Looks like you have a lovely thing going, here.
I don’t but what a great idea!
Was just thinking the same thing (printable :-). These are great idea!
I like these fonts. What are they called? I did not see these in the printable section. Did I miss it?
The fonts on this board are just a collection of free fonts I’ve downloaded on my computer over time.
I like the questions; a nice barometer. Thank you for coming to the Inspire Me Monday Linky party.

Love this! What a wonderful idea!
I love this! I was just reading (and preparing a post) about Matthew Kelly’s version of the ‘examen.’ I’ll take finding your post today as confirmation that I am to share this idea with my readers as well. Thank you! God bless you and yours.
This is wonderful! Being extremely new to the Catholic faith and practice (I’m in RCIA, finally!) I love things to help children, since that’s about my understanding level. I can’t wait to make a board for my own devotional area. Thanks for sharing!
So happy for you Sharri…RCIA! Welcome! Please send a picture of your finished board. I would love to see it.
