According to the color-coded highlights for January 3rd, I’ve read today’s reading in 2017, 2018, 2020, and now 2021. I’ve done this thing where each year I read through for my Catholic Bible Study, I use a different color highlighter. Just seeing the different colors, representing the different years, makes my One Year Bible a treasure to me.
I had two takeaways in today’s reading. One, the enemy is so tricky! We’ll get to that when I share my reflections from the New Testament reading. Secondly, when I read the Psalm reading for the day I listed the qualities of God the Psalm reveals. Making a list as I read is an engaging way to take notes on the reading. It helps connect some dots and thoughts!

In close fellowship with God
Oh my goodness! I would love for it to be written of me that I lived in close fellowship with God like Enoch.
He enjoyed a close relationship with God throughout his life
This is a prayer of mine, not only for myself but my family and friends as well!! I love that this fact about Enoch is mentioned twice♥
Now the Lord observed the extent of the people’s wickedness and he saw that all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil.
My thoughts matter. My consistent thoughts matter!
It broke his heart
This makes me so sad! I hate that the evil thoughts, the consistent evil thoughts of the people broke the Lord’s heart. I’m one of “those people” though and that’s even worse!
Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless man living on earth at the time.
The “ONLY?” Makes you wonder huh? What the state of the world looks like now if Noah was the ONLY one back then? Yikes!
He consistently followed God’s will and enjoyed a close relationship with him.
Consistently=steady which was my 2018 word of the year.
The Scriptures say the same things about Noah and Enoch.
So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.
Ah, a perfect and beautiful example of obedience.
The Lord shut them in.
Sometimes, the Lord closes the door to protect us! (HUGE revelation!!)
Prove by the way you live that you have really turned from your sins and turned to God.
Words matter, but they aren’t the only thing that matters.
Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.
I can’t just coast by in life! God has a purpose for my life and wants me to produce good fruit for His kingdom and glory.
For forty days and forty nights he ate nothing and became very hungry. Then the devil came and said to him, “If…”
The enemy didn’t come to Him UNTIL He was hungry!
“If” is very similar to “What if? What about? How about?” They all sow doubt and distraction!
The Scriptures say…
The enemy knows Scripture…I better too!
The Lord responded to the enemy, fought the lies of the enemy with the TRUTH of the Scriptures. I need to do the same. That’s not reasoning with evil, that’s putting it in its place and crushing it with TRUTH!
But you O Lord…
The Lord:
is my shield
is my glory
holds my head high
answers me
watches over me
rescues me
gives me victory
blesses me
Fear of the Lord is the root of wisdom…
Stay rooted
