It’s always a great day in Catholic Bible Study when you can pull in the Litany of Humilty…right? It’s a tough prayer to pray for sure! But fit perfectly with a verse I underlined in the Book of Proverbs.
I want to encourage you to truly make this Catholic Bible Study your own. If a verse reminds you of a prayer, hymn, song, poem…whatever! Tie it in to the verse or passage. The more connections you make, the better chance you have of remembering what you’ve read.

Genesis 39:1-41:16
Matthew 12:46-13:23
Psalm 17:1-15
Proverbs 3:33-35
Sirach 6:32-37
The Lord was with Joseph and blessed him greatly as he served…
Genesis 39:2
The Lord was with Joseph. Period.
The Lord was with Joseph as he served. Period.
Because the Lord was with Joseph. Because the Lord was with him as he served, the Scriptures state, Potiphar recognized this was why Joseph had success in everything he did.
But the Lord was with Joseph there too…
Genesis 39:21
This verse states that the Lord was with Joseph even in prison, falsely accused.
Still, other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!
Matthew 13:8
Soil matters, foundations matter, beginnings matter–it all determines the crop, the growth, and the harvest.
To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.
Matthew 13:12
To those who listen…
To those who listen to the teachings of Jesus…
They will be given MORE understanding than they already have!
They will have an abundance (synonyms: great supply, bounty, plethora) of knowledge!
But to those who don’t listen…the little they have will be taken away!
Good News
Matthew 13:19
The Gospel is the greatest message, the best good news ever! Do I share it as much and with as much enthusiam as I do a great sale or my favorite restaurant for queso? (Torchy’s Tacos by the way has the best queso!)
The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
Matthew 13:22-23
Ah, the thorny ground…the seed cannot grow because there’s no room, the cares of this life are too demanding and crowd out anything and everything else. I think on eof the solutions to this is getting out into nature. to get out into the “real world” the world the Creator created; not the artifical one we live and breath and worry about all the time.
I am praying to you because I know you will answer O God
Psalm 17:6
Confidence! Trust! And this comes from knowing the Father, from the intimacy knowing that He will answer…sometimes eventually and sometimes not the way we expected, but He will answer!
Guard me as the apple of your eye
Psalm 17:8
I LOVE this! I am the apple of God’s eye!
he shows favor to the humble
Proverbs 3:35
Have you ever prayed the Litany of Humility? It’s a powerful and kind of scary prayer, yes?
Litany of Humility
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved…
From the desire of being extolled …
From the desire of being honored …
From the desire of being praised …
From the desire of being preferred to others…
From the desire of being consulted …
From the desire of being approved …
From the fear of being humiliated …
From the fear of being despised…
From the fear of suffering rebukes …
From the fear of being calumniated …
From the fear of being forgotten …
From the fear of being ridiculed …
From the fear of being wronged …
From the fear of being suspected …
That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I …
That, in the opinion of the world,
others may increase and I may decrease …
That others may be chosen and I set aside …
That others may be praised and I unnoticed …
That others may be preferred to me in everything…
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…
