I’m slowly flipping back and sharing the verses I highlighted and the notes I wrote down in my One Year Bible for 2021. There are many dates where I’ve read and reread the day’s readings so I’m also sharing past notes I’ve taken for my Catholic Bible Study!
Remember, I have an index page where all of my Catholic Bible Study posts are linked for an easy reference. I would bookmark this page to keep track of all the Catholic Bible Study posts.
Catholic Bible Study
January 9, 2021
Genesis 20:1-22:24, Matthew 7:15-29, Psalm 9:1-12, Proverbs 2:16-22, Sirach 3:17-24
A special note as I start sharing the verses that made me think and the reflection notes I wrote in my One Year Bible; this is the day our fireplace exploded in 2021. I had already finished my Catholic Bible Study earlier in the day and haven’t gone back to read any notes or highlights I made so this might be interesting!
Then you will live…
Well shoot! The very first thing I had highlighted for 2021! The explosion could have easily killed one of the four of us who were sitting right in front of the fireplace not to mention burned our entire house to the ground in just a few minutes! I had written the note, “intercession” out to the side of these highlighted words.
Then the Lord did exactly what he had promised…It all happened at the time God had said it would.
These two verses are about Sarah becoming pregnant, but they apply to each one of us every single day. One of the things I repeated most last year was, “God’s not surprised by this…” whatever “this” was.
The next morning Abraham got up early…On the third day of the journey…
Abraham left immediately and kept going. He didn’t delay or need to take time to consult with anyone or any other excuse I can easily come up with. And…AND, he persevered. He didn’t just walk out his back door and there was the mountain; this was a three-day trip.
God will provide the lamb my son.
God will provide the lamb my son…or God will provide the lamb, my son? We don’t know at this point in the story what’s going to happen. All we know is Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son.
You have not withheld even your beloved son from me.
What am I withholding from the Lord???
Abraham named the place, “The Lord will provide”.
Where are those places in my life? Think of them and name them, claim them!
This name has now become a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
I love this!
Because…I will…
Loving God is a relationship.
You can detect them by the way they act, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit…Yes, the way to identify a tree or a person is by the kind of fruit that is produced
Not just by words!
Not all people who sound religious are really godly.
Godly=devoted to God
Go away; the things you did were unauthorized.
I can’t just do things the way I want to do them, I need to do them God’s way.
I will thank you Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name O Most High.
1. Thank God
2. Share God
3. Be joyful
4. Praise God
Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds.
Command…Honor…Privilege
…integrity…
synonyms=honesty, sincerity, virtue
My child, do your work with humility, and God’s people will love you.
Pride doesn’t draw others to me or more importantly, to God!
The Lord is great and powerful, but he is honored by the humble.
I want to honor the Lord!
