Welcome to my weekly Sunday post, Daybook Online Journal. This is a post where I gather all the ordinary things that happen or are happening in my day to day. Things like what I’m reading or listening to…eating and cleaning and learning…These are the small moments that make up my blessed daily life; and I want to remember them. If you blog, please link up below with your Daybook Online Journal post. If you don’t have a blog, no worries, just leave your “post” in the comments. You can use my prompts or make up your own to include items important to you; mine change depending on season and circumstance.

::safe trip to and from double header soccer games out of town
Praying…
I am praying for my grandparents. They have always been my safe place–themselves physically but also their home. My grandma fell and broke her shoulder and will have to be hospitalized for possibly 12 weeks. My grandpa cannot take good enough care of himself alone while she is hospitalized; plus her Alzheimer’s is progressing. For the time they will be together in the extended care wing of their town’s hospital. If and when she becomes a flight risk, they will be moved to a more secure location.
I have been all red-eyed and snotty nosed over this situation these last couple of days; especially when I thought they were going to be separated.
Pondering…
I’m really having to battle some fear right now about my children growing and being out in the world. Some of this is being irrationally fed by too many late nights watching “Dateline” “60 Minutes” and “20/20” before having children when Chris worked nights. Some of it is being fed by scary internet stories too. Advice mommas of older children?
Listening to…
The office heater is cycling off and on in here, while the fireplace is running in the other room.
Do you all who work out of have children who listen to music to get pumped up before a game or practice have some good music suggestions?
Reading…
My NRSV Notetaker’s Bible
I know these journaling Bible’s that contain all the books of the Bible are getting hard to find. I do have people looking in their area for copies for you all.
Divine Intimacy: Meditations on the Interior Life for Every Day of the Liturgical Year
Our Thoughts Determine Our Lives: The Life and Teachings of Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica
I cannot recommend this book enough!
Bible Journaling…
Like I said, I know the NRSV Notetaker’s Bible is getting hard to find. This past week I have spent some time Bible journaling in my RSVLarge Print
and my RSV Ignatius Bible
to show you that you don’t necessarily need a journaling Bible. They are certainly easier to journal in, but not entirely necessary. I will be sharing those images and notes soon.
And I mentioned above, I have found Bible journaling to be a great stress reliever…even when I mess up–which is a LOT. It’s spending time in the Word: saying it, thinking about it, writing it, aligning it on the paper, coloring or painting it…The Littlest Way has been kind of quiet this week because I needed that quiet time to process the situation with my grandparents and I spent that time Bible journaling.
Around the House…
I hauled 8 bags to Catholic Charities on Friday and have two to give away…yay! More cleaning and purging and a certain little someone turns the BIG 3 this week! Can you all believe it???
In the Kitchen…
I am slowly meal planning to include more dairy free/gluten free meals and snacks at least for me to try. As for the rest of it–a big fat rut. Which is ok, it’s Lent.
Our Domestic Church…
I’m working hard to prepare Maximilian for First Holy Communion and Confirmation later this Spring.
Link up ladies! I’d love to see your Daybooks.
I love your bible journaling and have had a few evenings where this was my peace, quiet, and prayer time too. It really is so fruitful! I’m praying for your grandparents. I’m so very sorry. I can’t imagine the heartache your experiencing but am praying. And will be praying for your older ones. I know I don’t have older ones, but the other day when I was a ball of anxiety you encouraged me to take some steps back on researching and watching things that don’t encourage peace. So maybe less dateline, 20/20, etc? Or if you’ve already watched a number of them that are ingrained in your brain maybe try replacing them with EWTN or more calming watches? Prayers!
I would love to see some of your Bible journaling Amanda.
Thank you for the prayers. I have not spoken to them yet but it sounds like they are transitioning well, at least my grandpa, I’m not sure my grandma knows yet they aren’t going back home–so hard to even type.
Unfortunately those awful shows are already in my mind from years ago. So yes, now I try to replace them and I also pray to forget them.
I’m praying for your grandparents…and for you…
Thank you Clare. I’m going to give them a call this morning and see how they are adjusting to their new “home” away from home.
Jenny, I am sorry to hear about your grandparents but I am so glad that they can stay together. With regards to your children in the world, you need to rest on the training that you have given them and then hand them over to God. Now saying this, I find it difficult to put this into practice too. Proverbs 3:5-6 is my most favourite scripture. Thanks for sharing you days with us at Good Morning Mondays,. Blessings
Thank you Terri. Trust and rest are definitely areas I need to work on.
I am sorry to hear about your grandparents. I am sure it is some consolation that they can remain together. My grandma passed away when I was 13, and not a day goes by that I don’t think of her. She is always close. I will say a prayer for your grandparents and for your family, as all of you adjust to their new situation.
Your Bible journaling is so pretty! I was not able to find the note taking Bible that you have, so I purchased an NRSV Ignatius Bible. No room for pretty journaling, but I am enjoying it.
Have a good week!
Sarah, there is room, you just have to find it or create it. I’ve been reading and journaling in my Ignatius Bible the last couple of days so I can post about how a non-journaling Bible can be used for Bible journaling.
Thank you for prayers for my grandparents. They are not Catholic, and don’t go to church anywhere…I don’t even know if they prayer or believe in Jesus. That has been very heavyon my heart as well. Please pray that God will show me how to share Him with them.
I look forward to seeing your journaling in your Ignatius Bible!!
Oh, and I will pray in an extra special way (already have) for your grandparents. I am sure you are sharing the Lord with them already, and you don’t even realize it! {{Hugs!}}
Jenny, I ‘just write’ in my journals, always have, but you and others show such a beautiful way of ‘dressing up’ the word. I may switch to a painting journal–blank pages–no lines, to write/decorate my Scriptures on. What a powerful way to memorize the Word.
Thanks for linking up with the Small Wonder Community.
I’m so sorry to hear of your grandparents’ illnesses! It is wonderful that they will not be separated. I understand the fear for loved ones aging and hurting. They will be in my prayers.
I too become anxious when I think about my grandchildren going out into the world! It is such a crazy, scary world today but I agree with Kaethe P in that you seem to be preparing them very well. May God be first and be with you all!
I cannot even imagine the world when I have grandchildren ((shudder))
I am glad that your grandparents aren’t separated. I will pray or them.
Every time I see you Bible journaling, I want to start doing it, too. But I can’t do all the things, so I will stick with my non-journaling Bible reading for now. 🙂
Erica, you would be surprised what you could do! And sticking to what is working for you is absolutely a very good thing because you are still spending time with God.
Jenny, I think you’ve already given your kids lots of good tools to resist the world. If you are fretting about college, http://www.cardinalnewmansociety.org offers a guide to choosing a Catholic college. We sent our daughter to a private, sectarian college and were so pleased that she called home almost every night to run things by us: everything from class choices to going home with friends for the weekend to what she and her friends should wear to different events. You hold them close now — chances are they will stay close, even when they are out from under your roof and wings.
Thank you Kaethe for your comforting words.
