Welcome to my weekly Sunday post, Daybook Online Journal. This is a post where I gather all the ordinary things that happen or are happening in my day to day. Things like what I’m reading or listening to…eating and cleaning and learning…These are the small moments that make up my blessed daily life; and I want to remember them. If you blog, please link up below with your Daybook Online Journal post. If you don’t have a blog, no worries, just leave your “post” in the comments. You can use my prompts or make up your own to include items important to you; mine change depending on season and circumstance.

Pondering…
This quote from Elizabeth Foss on her Instagram account this week…
“When my kids were really little I had to look outside my family for adult conversation. I found community online and in local moms groups. As they get older, I see the community my family can be to one another. I still love and need my girlfriends. But my words? Increasingly, the giving and hearing is with my kids–via text, or snapchat, or flopped across the bottom of my bed. #Community– in the best sort of way. #projectblessed”
I truly find the conversation, encouragement and support I need within my own home, with my own people. I consider this a gift…I also consider this a cross. I consider my children, especially my older girls because they are older, dear friends. Not as peers, but definitely as friends. They are the first I share good news, prayer requests and some of my heart ponderings with. But, when they act up, as any child will at times when things don’t go their way and they disagree with their parents decisions or rules, I take it personally and it hurts my feelings. When they respond harshly or ugly or act distant because they are children and I am their mother and disagreements will happen; I take it as I would if a girlfriend were acting the same way towards me. This balance of friendship and mother is a delicate one and one I take very much to heart–through laughter and rebellion. It’s difficult for my heart. I would love some wisdom and counsel from those of you who have or are navigating this difficult territory. Elizabeth, Angela…
Listening to…
Luke is complaining of a belly ache because he drank hot chocolate on an empty stomach. Leo is complaining of his neck hurting–crick? His lymph nodes are a little swollen and he has a runny nose? Not sure what’s causing his discomfort. Immeasurably More by Rend Collective–a song for my one word: more.
Reading…
My Bible–The NRSV Notetaker’s Bible
Divine Intimacy: Meditations on the Interior Life for Every Day of the Liturgical Year
The children and I are reading Billowtail at lunch. So far, this is one of the best books we’ve read together in a long time. I find so many lovely quotes for life as I read through this beautiful children’s book. Sarah, have you heard of this book or read it? It is a lovely book for a Read Aloud.
I was feeling extremely foolish the other day after I realized a post I had written–Everything is Grace–contained a picture with a misspelling. I scrambled to delete the picture–well actually I talked Veronica through it as I was sitting in the car at piano lessons. I started reading my Bible and this realization gave me comfort, “God wasn’t worried about the misspelling because the post wasn’t about how to spell…the post was about His wondrous deeds.” (per my instagram account)
Around the House…
I love having our yearly Epiphany Blessing. It forces us to clean everythign…EVERYTHING! And after the blessing, Oh the house smells wonderful! Now the trick is to keep it clean, hahahaha! I have a load of items to drop off at Catholic Charities, my closet could use another once over and the new laundry system has not solved all my problems; it needs some tweaking.
In the Kitchen…
I have not grocery shopped yet. We have left over Vegetarian Chili from dinner on Friday so that covers a lunch and possible dinner. I have a freezer full of venison, so I need to plan using it.
Our Domestic Church…
We just had our Epiphany Home Blessing so our little domestic church is all sparkly and ready for the New Year. I have a date set for Maximilian’s First Communion and then Confirmation so I need to work on getting him ready.
Saving Money…
I earned $5 from Ibotta this week when someone I referred earned their first rebate! So easy guys…sign up to save money using Ibotta and then refer your friends and when they earn their first rebate, you receive $5! Since September I’ve earned/saved $50.75.
Somehow, not sure how, when I bought 2 pizzas, a big bag of lettuce, hot chocolate and Chai and Sam’s yesterday, I saved $3. Hopefully I’ll have more savings once I grocery shop this week.

I am happy you are allowing link-up and comments again.
I love that Bible. That may be a great choice for me next year. I want to read the whole Bible and taking notes is a really enticing part of that Bible. I write in mine, but it’s like “permission to write”. Which probably sounds stupid.
Great post.
Many blessings,
Em

haha, I misspelled something the other day on a photo. My husband pointed it out to me and I felt pretty great. lol But that quote from Elizabeth is just beautiful. I pray our family will experience this community in a more intentional and natural way when they’re older. The toddler community can be a little crazy. 🙂

Re: pondering. Extend grace. I am 61 my daughter 36. There are still times the mother in me despairs over actions. But she is asking for my friendship not my guidance. Yours are younger so you still have teaching moments. But extend grace as you want God to give grace to you. Love your blog, so inspiring, in the littlest way.
