Welcome to Day 10 of my 31 Days Writing Challenge as I read the book of Sirach for 31 days! The other day we considered Daily Affirmations. Good, good…but there is something even better. Even better than daily affirmations? Way better. Positive Affirmations…and even better than positive affirmations…Christian affirmations! And as good as Christians affirmations? Catholic Positive Affirmations!
Positive Affirmations
You know I’m going to quote from The 4:8 Principle: The Secret to a Joy-Filled Life, one of my all-time favorite books, next to the Bible. (Hi Mr. Newberry, one of your biggest supporters here.) Anyway, in Chapter 4, the author states, “Too many people resign themselves to lives far below what God intended. They don’t see themselves as worthy…Much discouragement and underachievement result from dwelling on the failings of our human nature. A mediocre self-concept does not come from God but from the stains of the world. It comes from seeing ourselves different from how God sees us.“ (emphasis mine) So how does God see us?
According to Ephesians 2:10 we are God’s accomplishment, His workmanship, His masterpiece. Wow. Let that sit a bit. Now say out loud, “I am God’s masterpiece.” Powerful isn’t it? What if we started our day first with an act of gratitude for the day and then put both feet on the floor with the words, “I am God’s masterpiece.” What if some time during the morning we told our children they were God’s masterpiece before we sent them on their way?
What if throughout the day, we recalled more positive affirmations, more Christian affirmations to keep us going strong mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically? How different would that make tomorrow look from today? Or the last day of the month from payday?
And while we’re talking about Christian affirmations, let me say this, if you think you can’t memorize scripture or can’t find any “good” scripture affirmations…you’re right. On the other hand, if you believe God’s Word can help you turn your negative thinking around, if you believe you can memorize some of these scriptures to change your habitual thinking…you’re right.
I made a pretty printout of Positive Affirmations for us to hang on our bathroom mirror–or tape to our forehead–to remind us of who we are, Who we belong to, and what we can expect. And even that’s the only affirmation you can muster right now, “I am a child of God,” that will be enough to begin to chip away at your old, negative, habitual thought patterns.
Are you wondering how this fits in with my 31 Days of reading and writing about the book of Sirach? The book of Sirach is filled with encouragement for us to speak and think rightly.

I’m just going to marinate in those affirmations when I’m feeling low. Thank you!
Jenny says
I love the thought of marinating in His truth. Thanks for the visual Barb.

Oh my, I love love love loooooooooove this concept! There are so many positive affirmations out there that focus on who WE are, what WE can do… but that’s not what it’s all about. We are who God made us; we can do everything in His strength. Thank you for the printable (pinnable!) and the scripture references. Love it. (I don’t do it every day, but I often sing Sandi Patti’s old song “Masterpiece” to my littles. Don’t know why it never occurred to me to think of myself that way, too!)
Jenny says
I know! I absolutely love the idea of focusing on Who God made me, not who I am making myself into. He’s my Creator so of course it makes sense to look to Him for the truth about myself.

This is a lovely post and your printable is gorgeous. Keep inspiring. I love it!

I have no idea how these comments got by me. Sorry for the late response but I appreciate your time to comment.
Meagan says
I am not particularly religious, but I love the idea of daily positive reminders. Such a great way to start your day with a thankful and purposeful mindset.
Jenny says
Yes, daily affirmations equal positive reminders of who we really are, not who or what the world tells us. This principle is life changing.
Erin says
This is such a powerful and uplifting message! Love it. And thank you for sharing.
Jenny says
Thank you Erin for stopping by. I have no idea how your comment got by me. Sorry for the delayed response.

Very encouraging post esp this section, “A mediocre self concept does not come from God but from the stains of the world. It comes from seeing ourselves different from how God sees us.”
Great reminder to continually look to GOD for my worth.
Jenny says
Yes, Susan…we must continually look to God–our Creator–for our real worth. The world lies, flat out lies, about who we are. That’s why it’s so important we seek our value from Truth Himself.

there is power in how we think and speak to ourselves and others. Dr. Emoto’s rice experiment where you put rice in a three jars and label them … ignore … thank you and I love you … you are stupid. PUt them out on the counter or a shelf.
Each day you speak the words on the jar to the jar ( except of course you ignore the ignore jar. set it away)
and after six weeks, note the result.
WE did this experiment and the negative jar was black and sticky and smelled horrible. The positive jar was sweet sour like sourdough started. The rice was loose and dry.
our thoughts and words are important.
Jenny says
I have never heard of this Cynthia. I have heard of people speaking to plants, but not rice. Very interesting because it does show the life or death power in our words.
Susan Shipe says
I love the colorful graphic of affirmations. I will have to google the book of Sirach.
Jenny says
Check back frequently Susan for more printable daily affirmations. I am a firm believer that not only reading them, by seeing them are so very important.
Melissa says
I follow a different spiritual path, so Christian affirmations do not apply… but it is a beautiful concept and one that is so rewarding. I have my own that I use in walking meditation every day to remind me that I am worth being loved, and that my love is important to give to others.
Blessings to you,
Melissa
Jenny says
I “love” that your affirmations include not only that you are loved, but that your love is important to give to others.
